Hit - Definition

A Hit is essentially a measurement of the number of requests for a file that are retrieved from a web server. If a user accesses a web site and opens a page containing 6 images, it will in the process actually generate 7 hits. There is one hit for each of the images files and one hit for the HTML page itself. It can also be referred to as the number of search results (hits) that a search engine returns for a specific query.
