As the name implies, if you have many other sites linking back to yours, then you can consider that your your site has gained some popularity. Thus, the more links that others are posting back to your site, the higher your link popularity will be. Search engines, such as Google along with other web authoring entities, use a special link analysis system to rank web pages to define their link popularity.
